A Girl, a Boy, and their Dog

Allura and Cal (and their pup, Gemma) were such a joy to work with. The day started at the iconic Logan Hotel, and toured through some of Philadelphia's most beautiful historic and natural sites. It's really not about the location, the dress, or the details; This wedding was such a beautiful day because of the joy emanating from them, and everyone around them (although, their taste in wedding details was impeccable, too).

Getting Ready | The Logan

The Logan hotel rests on one of the most iconic streets in Philadelphia. I also saw the Jonas Brothers walking out of it one time, but that's besides the point. This is one of my favorite spots to capture wedding prep, not only for the gorgeous window light, but because it's just steps away from the angelic fountain of Logan Circle and framed by skyscrapers for a dynamic range of photo locations. Yes please.

First Look

This part of the day is one of my absolute favorites. It's a chance for me to capture the real emotions of my couple in a low-pressure environment (i.e. no one staring at your reaction while the bride walks down the isle). It's a time to slow down and appreciate each other. There's no wrong way to get married, but this is a really nice way to carve out some time in an otherwise full day, to just be with each other. Cal patiently waited for Allura in the Cherry Street park, and couldn't take his eyes off her for the rest of the day. My cheeks hurt from smiling (like a total creep) from the nearby hedges. From here, we stopped at the Logan Circle fountain and Lemon Hill for some shots by the mansion.

Allura told me that she's always imagined her wedding ceremony music to be played on a steel drum-- so she made it happen. This is a perfect example of what I always tell my couples. You don't need to plan your wedding like you're filling out a template.

This is your day to celebrate your unique love, whether you're in the Caribbean or not-- if you want steel drums, you should go for it. You should also bring your dog, because come on.
